Jubilation as Jaffar Salutes.
Aug 22, 2015
There was jubilation when Jaffar, one of the stable's favorites, won a 1400m, BM64 handicap at Mildura yesterday
A core of dedicated owners made the long trip to Mildura and were rewarded with witnessing first hand one of Jaffar's best runs to date.
He was given the perfect ride by Dean Holland who can now boast a combined win and place strike rate of 75% on him.
Drawn 'the car park' in barrier fourteen he flew the gates and with his trademark turn of foot, raced to the lead and was quickly settled by Holland in a position just behind the leader. The pace was a 'cracker' but Holland was able to give him a breather down the back straight. On entering the home straight Holland made his move and with vigorous riding and the knowledge that he had a 'tough old bugger' under him took him to the front and was never headed, going on to win by half a length.
Jaffar has had his problems over the years, notably with a leg injury that kept him off the track for 32 weeks, but with dedication and care the team at Cornish Gaskin Racing lead by Mick & Donna, who have vast experience with these types of injury, have him back racing better than ever.
Jaffar takes his record to 36 starts with five wins, four seconds and four thirds. He has now won $72,575 in prize money.
Congratulations to all connections who have shown faith and patience in both horse and trainers.
