Another Echuca Double

Sep 25, 2015

Cornish Gaskin Racing had another successful day at Echuca with a winning double on the eight race card.

Spine Schiller saluted in race five a 1200m 0-58 handicap. Ridden to perfection by apprentice Brooke Sweeney he traveled towards the end of the field for most of the race where he was able to find his feet and balance up. At the 300m mark Brooke made her move edging him towards the leaders, at the 150m mark she found a gap between horses and with vigorous riding drove him through. He hit the lead about 50m from the post going on to win by .02 of a length.

Congratulations to those owners who showed faith and stuck with him, a much needed win.

This was his second win from 19 starts and has now won connections $24,325 in prize money.

Mary's Discretion made it a double when winning race seven the Moama Bowling Club 1400m, 0-58, handicap. Dean Holland rode her superbly, settling her just behind the leader for the majority of the race. At about the 150m mark he accelerated and worked his way to the lead. Fifty meters from home she hit the front and went on to win convincingly by 1 length.

This was a well deserved win for the tough little mare, she has been unlucky on several occasions and a reward for her patient owners especially Kaz, who attends as many of her races as work commitments allow.

She has now won $23,685 for her connections.

Days like this don't just happen they occur due to the hard work of all concerned with the preparations of the horses for race day. Thanks and congratulations to Mick, Donna, Ginger, Billy and Lorelle.
