Platinum Raider Salutes - A training triumph.
Jan 17, 2017
A training masterstroke and an excellent ride saw Platinum Raider win the 1406m, Sportsbet's New Racing Form, BM 70 handicap at Benalla on Sunday.
Finally drawing a barrier (3) he was away quickly and settled one off the fence, one behind the leader. Holland had him relaxed in this position until rounding for home. Approaching the 200m post he moved up alongside the leader and on passing the post he kicked and took over the lead. Holland's foot slipped out of his iron during vigorous riding and in an excellent display of horsemanship he kept himself and the horse balanced going on to win by 1.25 lengths. Speaking to connections after the race Holland was full of praise for the horse and was of the opinion that he had now earned a crack at a midweek or Friday night city race.
A bold but considered decision by the trainers saw him racing in a BM 70 race after recently racing in 0-58 and BM 58 class races. This step up in class saw him carry 54 kgs, a weight he had not previously carried in any of his races. He was also stepped out to 1405m after recently racing over shorter distances, this enabled him to settle and hit the line full of running.
This win was a tribute to the horse who never stops trying during any of his races. He has had several set backs during his career but has never thrown in the towel. He deserved this success.
Congratulations to all connections who have shown loyalty to not only the horse but also the stable.
Platinum Raiders record now stands at 20 starts, 3 wins, 3 seconds and two thirds. He has earned connections $53,193 in prize money.
