Jumping from barrier 3, the first decent barrier he has drawn for a while, he was quickly away, stable apprentice Mikaela Claridge who has a great affinity with 'Birdy' had him settled in fifth position about two off the fence between runners. Approaching the home turn she eased him back and was quick to take advantage of a gap as the field spread. With vigorous riding she urged him forward and 150 metres from home hit the front and was never challenged, going on to win by 3 lengths.

It was a fitting result for both horse and rider. Mikaela has progressed quite quickly since gaining her licence and is riding with confidence and ability. They both have a special bond and it was only time until they saluted the judge. Mick and Donna should also be congratulated for believing in them and keeping Birdy in work so that this achievement could be realised. 

Birdy a 9 year old Bay gelding has had 64 starts for 9 wins 2 seconds and 12 thirds. He has won $159,780 in prize money.
